Behringer WING vs X32 | Behringer WING Review
Great video. Super clear and transparent. Appreciate you doing a run through of what you think.
You definitely got my bro because they made me the engineer/Drummer
Hey nice Job, one question do you add reverb or any effect to make a better performance? any pluggin do you recoment like magma BB tubes
Does setting it up to record during a live session/ church service affect all of its outputs such as to FOH and online streaming. I was going to try and record worship during a live service but FOH also controls the online streaming via a matrix, will routing the inputs to record affect the matrix output for streaming?
How can I control the volume difference of each track? We use loop community and some tracks are really loud and the next will be low.
You should be able to adjust the master volume for each track and save a preset for the next time you load up the song.
Great to see you, James!
Can I use a thumb drive or any SSD drive to make that virtual recording. I always thought you had to use a computer or laptop.
A thumb drive or SSD is fine. You can use a computer to record into a DAW, but if you want to simply record them for playback on the mixer, using the SQ Drive is definitely the simpler option 🙂
Now would I be able to take that recording on the drive and take it to a daw? And edit it maybe for a video or just for mixing training
Have you been to syn aud con classes? Another EASE and Smaart user here.
question if i want to rise the volume of the overall live stream mix do i rise the volume of the post fade aux send ?
Shame that its an X32
Such a shame...
im pretty sure theres a mistake in the video editing, make sure you guys are using the right audio in the "after plugins" part :D
No he just sucks at mixing.
@@marsel108 ooofff...
I think it’s just that they accidentally recorded the full mix in mono, and also he didn’t do any channel processing like normal eq he was only demoing the ua plugins on raw channels, and he probably didn’t take any time to mix it since this isn’t a mix tutorial video
Tried this setup today and ran into a problem. The level of the reference mic in Open Sound Meter is way to high (30db above level measured by another meter). The reference mic is plugged into my SD8 attached to the X32 compact. I tried to reduce the gain on the channel the mic is connected to but it looks like it didn't have an effect. I tried to reduce the gain in X-USB in loopback and that didn't help either. How can I reduce the gain to get a closer match to the physical meter?
The only gain adjustment should be on the mixer. What is your current gain setting for that channel?
@@collabworship I set the channel gain all the way down. Then went to preamp under settings and set it all the way down too. The
@@wb9tpg1 That doesn't make any sense. Shoot me an email. dillon@collaborateworship.com
Is that a screen or what, please, what could that be
The LED Screen?
If it does more than you need, as does ours, then there’s no real reason to change. We’ve never run out of inputs or outputs.
So I would need to get a double xlr to a USB cable right?
Yes, using an audio interface to convert xlr to USB. Or you can use the USB card on your mixer if it's available.
Am I insane to say I even possibly prefer the X32 over the SQ? 😂 Lol the SQ is great. Sounds dope and the parameters and processing such as compression sounds great. I think Behringer has me sold on their workflow and routing capabilities over the SQ. Perhaps I may need to just do some more research to dig in deeper on the SQ 🤷🏾♂.
That mix is pretty rough.
😬
curious if you can work on both UAD and for example waves or live professor at once via Dante, have you tried it? I really like vocal effect from waves.
Is It Possible with Soundcraft Si Impact 32 ?
Should be
Church?!!
What is the name of the church?
NoLimits Church
Trigger the kick and snare, Compression on Drums and Bass
On the WING, is it also going to use up 2 channels for each input?
Please let try it on the wing
You can use a channel Insert. The WING has an external FX option. Doing it this way is going to use up one of your FX slots though.
No do not listen to @collabworship, I have mixed and used waves super rack using alt channels in the past on the Behringer Wing.
@@marsel108 Rudeness a little unecessary, but thanks for the tip. We'll try that out.
I have so many UAD plugins I've always wanted to use at church. Going to try to get one of these to pair with our wing :P
Nice! That would be awesome.
Only three things to hate about the X32, that’s awesome. And one of them is the phone pad. We have an old iPhone mini to control our room lights. Cue up the worship lighting, when the worship leader goes into opening prayer, tap ok 👍 So that only leaves two.

I hate the metering on the Allen & Heath consoles. We have the QU console, but it's the same compression metering. Why not put some numbers arount it. We use the mixing station app to connect wirelessly to the mixer. That app does have a correct reading of the amount of compression.
Wow!!!!
Appreciated. I am using CQ18T I struggle to bring presence to my mic channel. I will appreciate your help
AHHHHHH. So. I should be sending my dj board to the "line" inputs so only the board is effecting the total output of the signal. Correct? I get a bunch of changes in clarity when I go dj(xlr main out) to channels 15-16 on the xr18. I'm assuming this is right, I'm going to try it out, but thanks regardless! I might have solved the problem.
One of the rare videos explained easy, clearly and understandable... Kudos!!!
Hello... Kindly help me understand why I don't get enough output signal especially from the hand held mic even when the channel is clipping. I use a Midas m32. Not enough channel signal is output at the main LR even when the gain cranked all way.
I just made 8 panels. Bought all materials - including Rockwool - for 228 dollars Canadian. Add 20 for material, and I still came in at $32 each. I couldn’t access your materials list without putting my email in, but you must have priced some high end wood, etc. In any case, it was an interesting video. Be well.
Nice! What size and thickness on them?
Nerd
On the second to last review with the lead vocalist moving around his mic, would a good headset mic be a good option for him? I liked that his body showed enthusiasm in the worship, so I wonder if they could find a solution that goes with his style of worship.
Headset mics aren't usually the best for singing.
I'm running a Yamaha mixer with only 2 FX channels. Should I set a reverb and a delay or should I run two reverbs (plate for vocals & Hall for instruments)? We have a 250 capacity space
We'd recommend using Plate and Hall before using Delay.
In all the years I’ve never been told to EQ a track solo’d. Is that for a layman’s approach?
Pretty much. Way easier to initially find your problem frequencies when it's solo'd. Then you can go and make adjustments while listening to it in context with the band.
Super clear! Thanks
Thanks for the helpful video! I‘m doing audio for a band with 13 musicians, all of them use IEMs which all have individual monitor mixes. But as far as I understand, the SQ5/7 can‘t handle that because of the „only“ 12 mixbusses, right?
Ya, you only have 12 mix busses to work with.
@@collabworship can you recommend an alternative then thats similar to the SQ5?
@@fabioweissenberger2708 The Behringer WING has 16 Aux stereo busses and 4 stereo mains busses in the same price range.
Trackball gang! Once you get used to it, you'll never go back
If you already have some Behringer or Midas equipment like S or DL series stageboxes, then it migh be a nice idea to stick to the same ecosystem and choose Wing. Otherwise A&H SQ is a better idea. More local I/O ports, more faders, more expansion card choices, less picky about Ethernet wiring, more intuitive dBu-based metering...
Behringer has no quality in any dimension. Enough reason to choose only quality equipment.
We never have any quality-related issues with our Behringer equipment. 🤷♂
@collabworship , I'm talking about the quality in comparison when you buy a Hyundai vehicle or Mercedes. You might not have mechanical issues with the Hyundai, but everyone knows it's quality and the price it costs. Same analogy with the behringer. This is why it's so cheap..
Yea, I think the Braggs is the way to go for small church or weekdays prayer stuff, where you lead with maybe just an acoustic and a keyboard. For big church with big bands sometimes the acoustic is almost inaudible in the mix - it’s mostly the drum, keyboard, and electric that you hear - acoustic is just there for some texture I guess - iSolo would do the job fine.
Playing with a cajon brush is also a great idea. And instead of worrying about sticks, it's a good idea to muffle the snare drum and toms with something like a towel.
Having used various X32 components (Console, Rack, Stage Boxes) for about ten years, I am very happy with the interface and the operation. Where I have a concern is about hardware quality. I have an X32 Rack in my home that I use daily and use to test configurations for my church. It has worked flawlessly for years. After 9 years the power supply started to die. It would take several minutes for the Rack to boot up. Once it was up, all was good. It took me over SIX MONTHS to get a new power supply! What's worse is that I couldn't buy from Behringer or Sweetwater. I had to buy from the one and only supplier in the USA. They had a massive waiting list for parts for the X32 family. During that time I researched other support issues. There are a number of them. One in particular is that I'm not looking forward to when the Clock battery dies in the Console. Opening up the clamshell is a bugger. How's the supportability of the Wing?
Understandable. To be fair though, we've heard these kinds of stories about other brands as well. 🤷♂
Great vid. Im not a sound tech but the principles you touched on is whats helped me with vocals in the past. Im Glad i wasnt to far off.
We are a poor church, and have an old analog board, and I am stuck with a stereo out from a Yamaha EMX 5000-20, and I want the ability to mix individual channels for the livestream. I am assuming I will need a DAW, and a digital mixer sending channels out to the DAW. For now I am jumping through hoops to try and get the live broadcast to sound better as it is dry coming from that old analog board. So I EQ in the Atem mini, then it sends out to Vmix, and I have VST3 plugins for reverb/delay, etc for effects. The thing I do not like is not having the control, as anything I do affects the entire mix coming from the board. So I find myself sweeping on the paramentic eq, and doing the best I can to get things sounding good. Since the church does not have much money, so as far as they are concerned they get what they get for now. It is not optimal though...
all but the pastors mic is set to post fader. what does seting the faders on the live stream mix do? sshouldn't the mix be the same as the main? i dont understand.
Its so that you can adjust volume differences that translate differently over the stream vs in the room.
Thank you so much! This was CRAZY helpful!
It's worth keeping in mind that it's not just the mixer you're investing in, but the whole eco-system. In terms of cost, the 'whole system' viewpoint strongly favors the Wing, but in terms of quality I would say it favors the SQ, especially when it comes to ME1 vs P16 personal mixers.
